About me
I have recently graduated with a masters in Digital Effects at Bournemouth University. There I have been learning many different aspects of both 3D and 2D production. As well as this I have been developing a showreel which you can see below.
Before this I had graduated with a first class degree in Computer Science with Games Development at the University of Hull.Before I went to university I was a chef for about 6/7 years in many different restaurants. Working in restaurants taught me many life skills but unfortunately it wasn't what I wanted in my future. After much deliberation I decided to follow a career better suited to my creativity and work towards working in the computer games industry. So with this in mind I decided to go back to college to do a National Diploma: Software Development at Truro College, which I achieved straight distinctions in. I was also asked to represent my course at the annual governors meeting to express my views and how they could improve the course in the future.
After college I decided to go to University of Hull to develop my programming skills and of course you already know the story there!
Apart from work and projects I like to spend as much time as I can surfing, exploring the world, writing, gaming and simply having a laugh! Last summer I was a 'gamesmaker' at the Olympics in London which was an experience.

Masters Project
This was my final project at my time in Bournemouth University. I worked in a group of three to develop an epic landscape, where ships sailed on the clouds rather than on the seas. The aim of the piece was to give the audience a real "wow" factor when watching it. I had always wanted to develop something like this during my time at Bournemouth and was very happy to develop the piece to a good standard.
During this work I refined both my 2D and 3D skills. Aspects to note would be the development of a mountain asset, the cloud carve effects and the creation/refinement of the clouds in all the scenes.

Acid-Etched
DE Technique
For this project I had to develop an effect from scratch. I decided to develop an acid effect within Houdini much like in the alien films, which would burn through anything that it came in contact with.
It was a very challenging project to develop but ultimatly I am pleased with the final outcome.

Oilscape
Group Project
This project at Bournmouth University involved me working within a team to develop a visual effect sequence.
The group I was involved with decided to develop a piece that showed a city that had developed due to finding a large deposit of oil. The meaning is to show how a city has evolved due to its abundance of oil.
My main contribution to this piece was effects, but I also helped with modelling, texturing, scene building and lighting. I had an absolute blast with my team making this piece and it taught me alot about working within a team and within a 3D production pipeline.

Aquascape
First Work at the NCCA
This was my frst ever assignment at Bournemouth University. It exposed me to all the main areas of 3D and 2D that I would need to know to become a VFX artist.
The project involved taking a backplate which was above the water and converting that into an underwater scene. The piece also had to have a modelled real-world object, which would move and interact within the landscape. I decided on a give-way sign and a church tower as my enivroment.
I found this project very challenging (especially because of my programming background) but felt it was very satisfying to see the end product. I look back on it now and I see many mistakes, but back when I developed the piece what I learnt from this really paved my confidence for the rest of the year.
